The Cowboys won their fourth game in a row on Sunday. The teams slugged it our in the rain. The Cowboys walked away wet but with a 9-5 victory over the visiting White Sands Pupfish.

The Pupfish scored two runs in the top of the ninth to make the game look closer than it really was. Jasper Adams pitched six very good innings of baseball giving up nine hits and three earned runs. With the exception of the fifth inning, Adams held the Pupfish bats in check. Andrew Shoemaker and Scotty Hong, in relief, were excellent. Ryan Rogers came in to work the ninth when two unearned runs scored as the Cowboys committed two errors in the inning.

Last night's game moved quickly through three and a half innings as neither team seriously threatened. The Cowboys got a run in the bottom of the fourth. Anthony Renteria and Luke Stark singled and the hot hitting Corey Caswell drove home Renteria with a first pitch run scoring single.

White Sands took the lead in the top of the fifth. With two outs the Pupfish pitcher, Miguel Pereira, singled and scored on a double by JJ Constantino. Two more doubles and the Pupfish led 3-1.

Austin Prott hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to narrow the lead to 3-2. Prott took over the team lead in home runs, hitting his 8th of the year. The Cowboys had runners in scoring position in each inning but the first and one knew it was just a matter of time before Alpine broke open the game.

Corey Caswell, 3 for 5 on the night, singled to lead off the Cowboy sixth. Tim Henry, pinch hitting for Jasper Adams, had a great at bat, singling on the ninth pitch thrown to him and moving Caswell to second. John Hotta then laid down a beautiful bunt. The pitcher fielded the ball and tossed to third in an attempt to get the runner going from second to third. There was no one to cover third and Caswell raced home with the game tying run and Henry advanced to third with Hotta taking second. Riley Smith grounded to short but Austin Prott reached on an error by the White Sands second baseman scoring Henry and moving Hotta to third. Brian Millimen singled to score Hotta and Prott moved to third. Matt Henrickson's sac fly to center scored Prott and the Cowboys had doubled up the Pupfish 6-3.

The Cowboys scored three more runs in the eighth. Riley Smith singled and raced to second on a wild pitch. Austin Prott walked and both runners moved up via stolen bases. Matt Henrickson singled to plate Smith. Prott scored on a throwing error by the catcher as Henrickson stole second. Tyler Heck, pinch hitting for Anthony Renteria, singled to score Henrickson and the Cowboys lead was now 9-3.

The Pupfish scored two in the top of the ninth but it wasn't enough as Ryan Rogers got Tim Fleckenstein to fly out to right to end the game. The final score was 9-5.

Sunday's win moved the Cowboys to 26-9 on the year. The Dougles Diablos, in town for four games beginning on Thursday, crushed the Roswell Invaders 11-1 dropping Roswell to 21-12 on the season a full four games in back of the Cowboys in the race for the Southern Division crown.

Three more with the Pupfish and four with the Diablos before Alpine gets two days off. The team will then travel to Santa Fe, Raton and Trinidad for seven games.
